Altenburg Piano House was established 1847 in Bremen Germany by Frederick Altenburg. The Altenburg family emigrated to NYC in the 1890’s and subsequently branched out to New Jersey where the 6th and 7th generation continue the family tradition in the music business. Electronic organs entered into the Altenburg store initially as home organs in the 1950’s with Otto Altenburg. Otto quickly discovered institutions were in dire need of an organ that worked correctly and didn’t cost much to upkeep or procure. Otto naturally did very well with helping these customers, especially for liturgical use. Present day Frederick Altenburg (not the same Fred from 1847…lol) is offering Viscount instruments.
